FTP api: text files and conversion

We recently started using the FTP api and are seeing a really strange
problem. We are implementing the API in a RPGLE program. We need to send
text files and send them in non-binary mode.

Now when we run our program interactive, the file on the receiving end
is converted to ASCII and we get a readable document. But when we run
this program in batch mode, then there is no conversion done what so
ever. The document on the receiving end is not readable just if there is
no conversion being done.

What could be the problem here ? Why the difference in translating ?
