With the risk of sounding really dumb I'm going to ask this anyway... do
you have any suggestions on how to test for that?  for me to ask to open
up some ports on our firewall is close to an act of god...  So I need to
be sure that is what my road block is.  Thank you so very much for all of
your help.

I did run some ping and traceroute tests (which may not tell me anything)
they did come back without failure.
