Hi All,
I'm looking to help on some RPG opensource projects to bring my skills current as I've been doing COBOL work for the past year and am a bit rusty with RPG.
Any guidance would be appreciated.

I never know how to answer things like this.
Open source (which is two words, by the way) enables you to access the source code and to make your own additions/changes. Of course, there is no guarantee that the project would accept your changes if you submitted them, but... they might, or you could create your own fork of the project and distribute it yourself.
But even if your changes aren't published anywhere, you still can gain valuable experience.
You seem to be looking for someone to decide on an open source project for you, and to give you assignments with it, and that's not how it works in my experience. You should find it yourself and decide whether to contribute... not expect someone else to act like your manager.
