I'm presented with a new project challenge of receiving .gpg files on the IBM i and found that, of course, the great-one (aka Scott K), already tackled this monster for us ole dinosaurs. Before I go down the road of installing and trying it out, I have a couple of questions/concerns.
The Using GnuPG for PGP on i article was published during V5R4, who knew we would get to V7R4. Also seems the the latest version of GnuPG is 2.4 rather than 1.4 when published.
The first big question is... Is all the info still relative/accurate/useable approximately 8 years later?
If so, would it be recommended to stick with installing 1.4 or upgrading to 2.4?
If not, what recommendations does anyone have for decrypting .gpg text files on the IBM i?
Any other input and/or recommendations are always welcome.
Thanks!

Re: Using GnuPG for PGP on i
I haven't had a need to do this in many years. Obviously if you are doing it today, you would use the current version of GPG rather than the one from many years ago (I'm sure its more than 8 years.)
So use the current version and try it.

I'm facing a similar situation. The part that I was wondering about from the blog was this:
I had a hard time getting this tool to configure and compile on my system. It took me a lot of time and a lot of frustration, but in the end, I was victorious! I am now older and wiser than I was when I began. I hope to spare you the frustration that I experienced, so I will provide the tool already compiled. You can simply download, install, and run it on your system.
So mmayer4, were you able to get the newer version compiled?

gnupg2 appears to be available in yum. Is there a reason to try to compile it yourself rather than just installing that?

Thanks Scott. I used Yum to install a newer version, 2.2.19. Not sure yet why the newer version doesn't show up yet.

I don't know what you mean by "doesn't show up"?
You mean you run yum, and it downloads them into your ifs, but they are invisible for a time?
